La actividad física (AP) y los comportamientos sedentarios (SB) son dos factores de riesgos independientes de enfermedades no transmisibles. El objetivo de este estudio fue utilizar datos objetivos para caracterizar patrones de los grupos sociodemográficos sobre AP y SB en los ocho países Latinoamericanos. 2,732 participantes (de 15 a 65 años) del Estudio Latinoamericano de Nutrición y Salud (ELANS) fueron incluidos.

Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la puntuación de calidad de la dieta (DQS), considerando saludable y poco saludable alimentos y nutrientes, y el puntaje de diversidad de la dieta (DDS) como indicadores de riesgo de enfermedades no transmisibles en ocho países latinoamericanos, y para verificar las posibles diferencias considerando país, sexo, edad, estado socioeconómico y nutricional.

En los últimos años, la población latinoamericana ha sido testigo de una transición demográfica, epidemiológica y nutricional. Entre los cambios observados destacan la disminución en la prevalencia de desnutrición y el incremento acelerado del sobrepeso y la obesidad, atribuidos sobre todo a las modificaciones en el patrón de alimentación, caracterizado por el consumo de una dieta energéticamente densa, con elevada ingesta de alimentos fuente de azúcares simples y grasas saturadas y pobre en fibra.
